AJ's Biography
AJ was born to Jean and Andy Sperr, December 21, 1972. He was always known as the baby to 10 older siblings, even after seemingly reaching 6 foot by the age of 12. Early in life, he knew his career path would be either law enforcement or farming the land. He attended MCC and received his degree in Criminal Justice while at the same time working on the H.A. Maier Farm. In June of 1996, he proudly crossed the stage at the NYS Police Academy and began living the first part of his dream, being a Trooper. First stop, Troop F, SP Monroe. A short time later, he transferred to Troop E, SP Horseheads. It was there he was able to complete his dream and bought an 80 acre farm in Caton.

AJ, better known to his co-workers as Andy, aka, Superman, was dedicated to law enforcement. To the ire of his co-workers, he was never put in charge of getting lunch. You would be left waiting because he never missed an opportunity to stop and help someone. On March 1st, 2006, his career came to an untimely end when he was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop, unaware the two individuals in the vehicle had just robbed a bank.

He will always be remembered for his love of family and friends, and his willingness to go out of his way for the everyday and special occasions. He loved the outdoors, and could always be found hunting, fishing and using his spare time to build song bird houses or wood duck boxes. His unorthodox use of kayaks to go down sledding hills may very well be one of the best memories for his nieces and nephews. Being a kid at heart, he hauled home one of the largest swing sets any single man ever owned. Any child who came to visit him would be tired out from long walks in the woods, identifying animal tracks, catching newts, and being lovingly tackled while playing WWF.

To those who knew and loved him, he will forever be remembered for his silly grin that made you wonder what he was up to. We will forever miss that smile and the wonderful person behind it.
